Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Campaign to Re-Elect Wilma Wotten (the "Campaign," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects personal information you provide through this website. We respect your privacy and are committed to handling your information responsibly, in a manner consistent with applicable Canadian privacy law.
Information we collect
We only collect personal information that you choose to give us. Depending on how you interact with the site, this may include:
-
When you contact us: your name, email address, and any information you include in your message.
-
When you volunteer or request a lawn sign: your name, email address, phone number, and mailing or street address, so we can follow up, coordinate volunteering, or deliver and place a sign.
-
When you donate: your name, address, contact information, and donation amount. Payment details (such as credit card numbers) are processed by our third-party payment provider and are not stored by the Campaign.
We do not knowingly collect more information than we need for these purposes.
How we use your information
We use the information you provide to:
-
respond to your questions and messages;
-
coordinate volunteering, events, and lawn-sign requests;
-
process and acknowledge donations;
-
keep the records the law requires us to keep (see "Donations and public disclosure" below); and
-
communicate with you about the Campaign, where you have agreed to hear from us.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
Donations and public disclosure
Municipal campaigns in Ontario are governed by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. This means we are legally required to record certain information about contributors and to report it to the Township of Scugog, and some contributor information may become part of the public record through the Campaign's required financial filings. If you donate, your information will be handled in accordance with those legal requirements.
Email and communications
If you sign up or ask to hear from us, we may send you Campaign updates. Every email will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time by contacting us. We manage electronic messages in keeping with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
How we share information
We share your information only:
-
with trusted service providers who help us operate the Campaign (for example, our website host, email tool, or payment processor), who are permitted to use it only to provide those services;
-
as required by law, including under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996; and
-
to protect the rights, safety, or property of the Campaign or others, where necessary.
Cookies and website analytics
This website does not use advertising or third-party tracking tools. It may use basic cookies that are necessary for the site to function.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable steps to safeguard the personal information we hold against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law. Campaign financial records, including contribution records, are retained for the period required under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
Your choices and rights
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop contacting you. We will respond to reasonable requests. Some information tied to legal recordkeeping (such as contribution records) may need to be retained even if you ask us to delete it.

Our site may link to third-party sites, such as our social media pages or a donation platform. This policy does not cover those sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with its effective date.
